ACL Day 2

Day 2:
We got an earlier start on Saturday, and began it with breakfast and cocktails at our friend Emily's. After a bloody mary, we were ready to see some fucking live music.

We caught the ass-end of Centro-matic's set, and if i didn't know better, i'd say that their starting to sound like a jam band. More word on this travesty as it develops. But the day officially began with a set from Austin's own Ghostland Observatory. They were sensational. Prancing around the stage like Freddie fucking Mercury, these guys had the whole crowd shaking our asses. But, as i mentioned on myspace, these guys really need a full touring band just to give the sound and sights more umph. I know that no one's asking for my opinions or advice, but fuck you. This is my blog.

After Ghostland i ate a bratwurst from The Best Wurst. Even with all the kick ass music, this was still one of the day's highlights. I also ate a chopped beef sandwich from Stubbs. Any time i get to eat more than one meal within an hour is awesome. Paige and i skipped Ben Kweller, but the word on the street was that he had to stop his show after 15 minutes due to a double nose bleed that wouldn't stop. He went so far as to shove a tampon up his nose until it got to heavy from all the blood and splattered all over his piano. I don't know if it was allergies or cocaine, but as my friend Pat said, "It was kind of rock and roll."

We watched about 15 minutes of The Secret Machines. When i woke up, we got the hell out of there to see TV On The Radio. These guys blew my mind as they always do, and the added a couple of saxophonists to the mix to blow it even more...my mind that is.

I decided to skip The Shins. It's not that i dislike them or anything. Actually, i can dig on their records every now and then, but i think they are one of the most overrated bands on the scene. They're not really doing anything all that special, and i could give a crap if they changed Natalie Portman's life. But the sounded alright. Instead, i decided to check out the Oasis (the one air-conditioned room on the premises) for their HD televisions and the college football being broadcasted on those televisions. And what a day of college football it was. Separation fucking Saturday. But, i digress.

We then saw a little bit of Aimee Mann's set and she was really good. She's also painfully skinny. She's so pointy looking that i think her cheek could pop a balloon. I regret that i missed Calexico, but i guess i felt more at home with all the chicks and lesbians.

We then went over to Austin Eats, and i got to eat again. I was very happy. It was about this time that Paige and her sister Jenn began to notice how burned i was getting. I thought i was too tough for sunscreen. I was wrong.

Well, i'm running a little long here, so here's the wrap-up. What Made Milwaukee Famous certainly shouldn't make Austin famous. Brazilian Girls were very weird, and i felt like i should be litening to them in a gay club, but they were cool and funky in their own way. I then had to check out my fellow Midland, Texas boys in Explosions in the Sky, who sounded fucking brilliant. Way to go kids. We watched Willie Nelson for 5 minutes, dropped Paige and Jenn off at the Rock Island Hideaway to watch the Texas A&M game, and Rob and i went to watch Massive Attack for an hour. They sounded really good, and their light show looked impressive.

Then we left and drank more beer.
